About Us

Established in 2007, the Cape Breton Organic Beekeepers' Cooperative (CBOBC) promotes and facilitates sustainable beekeeping for Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Our priority is pest & disease management awareness through public events, training seminars and beekeeping apprenticesips. By working to reduce the incidences of pests & diseases on Cape Breton Island our members are better able to practice certified organic beekeeping methods.

Our membership is composed of individuals of all ages from all walks of life: teachers, lawyers, farmers, hospitality, construction. We always welcome new and experienced beekeepers and honey bee enthusiasts to our membership!

We also assist our members with marketing their hive products, and we are currently designing a honey bee crop pollination strategy for Cape Breton Island with the assistance of the Canadian Cooperative Development Initiative and our local partners.

We are passionate about healthy honey bees, high quality hive products, and the long-term viability of beekeeping on Cape Breton Island. Above all, we recognize the importance of healthy honey bees as essential to a resiliant and competitive local beekeeping economy.
